For certain countries, passenger vehicle production is seen as a major part of their economy. This may be especially true for China, which is said to be the largest car producer in the world, according to the data website worldometers.info. Meanwhile, according to figures from the website Statista, China also led in global car production the following year, with 24.81 million cars.

Aside from China, other leading countries in car production include Japan, Germany, South Korea, and India. Meanwhile, the U.S. had also been considered among the top five car production countries back in 2016 with 5.5 percent of the total world production, or approximately 3.9 million cars. However, U.S. slid down to sixth place the following year, having only produced 3.03 million cars in 2017. As we have said earlier, car production is a global undertaking. And other countries in the top ten for car production include Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and the U.K.

Meanwhile, one country that is not on the top ten is Canada. In 2016, the country had only accounted for 1.1 percent of total world car production. This amounted to a mere 802,057 cars. Meanwhile, the following year, it is estimated that Canada's car production further decline to approximately 750,000. Nonetheless, it is worth noting that some of the most popular cars today have been made in Canada.
